Part III

Fearless Garuda: Emptiness and Absolute Bodhicitta is the third course of the four-part series exploring the Shambhala Mahayana teaching.
The power of the Mahayana comes from its clarity regarding the true nature of reality. This clarity is described as penetrating insight (prajna), that sees that the world is actually different from what we habitually think it is. Instead of assuming that beings, objects and systems are solid, truly existing independently, the bodhisattva sees that everything is empty of concepts and reference points (shunyata).

The course includes:

  • Five recorded classes with an Acharya, followed with group discussion with those attending the class.
  • Readings and book suggestions to deepen our understanding of these teachings
  • Contemplations to help us integrate these fundamental teachings into our daily lives

Scheduled Talks :

Class 1 - Going Beyond Concept: Prajna and Absolute Bodhicitta with Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown

Class 2- The Heart Sutra: Twenty-five Lines On How to Practice Prajña Paramita with Acharya David Schneider

Class 3- Wisdom and the Great Mother: Mahayana Feminine Principle with Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown

Class 4- Glimpses of Sunyana with Acharya Melissa Moore

Class 5 - Prajna & Compassion: From Empathy to Compassion with Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown

All classes will be held at the Brunswick Center.

Generosity Policy:

The Brunswick Portland Shambhala Center is funded solely by your membership and program donations. Thank you for your generosity as you consider what you can pay for each program at our Center. We strive to price our programs in a way that accurately reflects the financial need of our Center and the cost to us of producing the program.

We have a generosity policy to make our offerings available to all who wish to participate. If the program price is an obstacle for you, please consider what is possible for you in your current situation, and offer as much of the program fee as you can.

For those who can offer more than the program price, we have a “patron price”. Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price.
