“Wanting someone else to be happy is like bathing in honey and milk.” - Sakyong Mipham
Joy in Everyday Life is a five-week meditation course in the Shambhala tradition. The class examines the Buddhist teachings on compassion and loving-kindness.
Consider this: If our normal mantra is “What about me?” flipping that into “What about you?” can be profound and have wide-reaching implications in our own search for happiness. As the Sakyong states, “Wanting someone else to be happy is like bathing in honey and milk.”
In this class series, we deepen our practice of shamatha meditation (“peaceful abiding”), and we develop trust in our basic goodness. From this ground, we experience the uplifting quality of compassion. We release self-involvement, and we extend loving-kindness to others. Together we learn that joining gentleness with discipline leads to a sense of joy in our lives. We experience our innate wisdom and confidence; we touch into the qualities of bravery and freedom from doubt.
