The Protector Principle

THE PROTECTOR PRINCIPLE

As staff during a weekend retreat we are asked to be mindful of  The Protector Principle.

We commit to the practice of protecting the space in which practitioners hear and practice the teachings.

The protection extends to the teacher who presents the teachings, the teachings themselves, and the community that practices the teachings.

This can manifest in the simple functions of

  • acting as a gatekeeper for the Center to allow a meditation session to be undisturbed.
  • ensuring that someone from staff remains at the center during off site activities such as Sunday lunch or that optional walk outside.
  • greeting new comers to the center and directing them to local parking.
  • supporting others during an emergency that might arise.

Always meeting situations with insight, loving kindness and lots of space.
