“The body benefits from movement, and the mind benefits from stillness.” - Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
This January, join us for a kind-hearted journey into stillness and simplicity. Shamatha meditation offers an opportunity to pause and simply be with ourselves just as we are. Shamatha, which translates as peaceful or calm abiding, is a mindfulness-awareness practice. As we sit on the cushion and follow our breath, we learn to rest our mind in the present moment. We learn to relax into ourselves and explore stillness.
The intention of this group is simple. We will practice together and support each other to practice in-between classes. We are not assigning a book but rather will discover the inherent wisdom within each of us through practice. Each class will include instruction, shamatha meditation, reflection, and discussion on the theme of stillness and simplicity.
Recommended reading: For new students or anyone who wants a refresher on Shamatha meditation, we recommend Turning the Mind into an Ally by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
