October 29, 2020: Maine Sangha News
Welcome, Maine Sangha,
While the physical center is closed, our community continues to be at the core of all that we do. In order to care for each other, we are offering a variety of ways to stay connected. With the power of virtual options such as Zoom, we are able to keep us connected for practice, study, and gathering.
If you are looking for ways to connect with the community, please check the website, as well as your emails, for updates on events. Let us use this time to come together and to keep our connections strong and meaningful.
If you would be more comfortable connecting with a person directly rather than visiting our website for information, please contact us at: [email protected]. We will be in touch shortly after receiving your inquiry.
Please join us online!

10:30 AM Coffee and Conversation: Community Connections
On Sunday Nov. 8 the Brunswick/Portland Shambhala Council invites you to “coffee and conversation” focused on the topic of politics and meditation.10:30-11:30am after our customary meditation 9-10:30am. We invite you to contemplate the following quotation from Chogyam Trungpa on a Buddhist approach to politics. Please join us for our discussion. A Buddhist Approach to Politics “If a person came with a sense of responsibility to society, that would be a Buddhist approach to politics and also to the social side of life, which is the same, in a sense. One problem in this country is that the abstract notion of democracy is misleading. Problems arise from the aggression inherent in our concept of democracy. People begin to feel they have been cheated or have not been allowed enough freedom to do what they want, to say what they want. It lacks a notion of discipline that should go along with it: just throw everything into the big garbage pail and, hopefully, somebody will do the sorting out in our favor. This is a big problem.” |
