Milarepa Day is our annual tradition to celebrate the enlightenment and life example of Milarepa. The celebration involves a full day of practice, which includes chanting the songs of the lineage teachers in The Rain of Wisdom (Tib: Kagyü Gurtso).
Milarepa depicts the humble beginnings of the man who was to become Tibet’s greatest saint in the Kagyü Lineage. With the guidance of a teacher, Milarepa set out to seek spiritual enlightenment to purify his bad karma. Eventually, his wisdom attracted many disciples and he became a great teacher and poet. Many of his poems of realization, called dohas, are included in The Rain of Wisdom.
These dohas are the personal voices of the lineage holders, sharing their experiences of the path, practice, and realization. In chanting them, we attune our minds to theirs, invoking the inspiration of their sanity and devotion.

All community members are welcome to attend the Shambhala Sadhana full moon gatherings! Please join us for the Shambhala Sadhana, a practice composed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche on the basic goodness of self, others, and society.

These gatherings are opportunities for us to meet, practice together, and have conversations around themes of basic goodness and wholesome society. Afterward we will enjoy a potluck celebration. Offerings are also welcome, so feel free to bring a poem, song, dance, or other personal offering to share during the celebration if you are inspired.

The Shambhala Sadhana practice coupled with food and conversation — Food, Conversation, and Meditation — is a powerful method to engage together in creating enlightened society. This sadhana encourages us to experience basic goodness personally and societally. Good conversation inspires us and increases our relationships with others. Celebration helps us to gather together and radiate goodness in our cities, towns, and communities.

These monthly community gatherings will be held on, or near, each full moon. The 2016 Shambhala Sadhana gatherings are scheduled for:
